When affect feeding in newborns and infants
Trouble latching on (Baby goes on the breast, sucks once or twice, and then pops off)
Trouble sucking and may have poor weight gain.
Nursing mothers experience significant pain while nursing
When affect speech in toddlers and older children
Limitation of tongue movement
Heart -shaped notch at the tip of the tongue
Inability to stick tongue out or touch the roof of the mouth
Difficulty moving the tongue from side to side
Affect speech
Appear around the age of three
Difficult to pronounce sounds - l, r, t, d, n, th, sh, and z
Clip tongue tie if it affects feeding for newborns or infants or speech for toddlers and old children. Discussed with your child’s pediatrician who may refer you to an otolaryngologist—ear, nose, and throat specialist to clip it. |
