Management for Vomiting (Gastritis) 02/12/07
Home made oral re-hydration solution for kids over 1 year old: 16oz water + 1/4 tsp salt + 2 tsp sugar or you can give Gatorade. If your kid < 1 yr, please give over the counter oral re-hydration solution such as Pedialyte. I usually like to follow the regimen as
Nothing by mouth for one hour after last vomiting
Start oral re-hydration solution
Give half oz - wait half hour
Give 1 oz – wait 1 hour
Give 2 oz – wait 1-2 hours
Give 4 oz – wait 2 hours
If tolerated oral re-hydration solution, consider give bland solid food (banana, apple sauce, bread, or vegetable)
Give 1 oz – wait 1 hour
Give 2 oz – wait 2 hours
Give 4 oz – wait 2-4 hours
Give 4-8oz – wait 4 hours
Continue to give oral re-hydration solution between the solid foods
If tolerated the bland solid then start milk or meat. Start 1oz, and then double the volume every 2-4 hours.
