1-3 month’s old babies usually sleep 15-16 hours a day. Some babies only sleep 8-10 hours a day, and others hardly wake up for feeding. Term newborns usually evenly distribute sleep-wake periods daily. The babies begin to accept night sleep pattern when they approach 6 weeks old. |

How to let my baby sleep longer overnight?
Mom, my doctor said that I’m a really good baby for sleeping at night at 1 month old. Please give me a little more time to adjust myself for a longer night’s sleep. I would like to show everyone my sleep routine. My doctor agrees to post the 99 more one month old babies’ sleep routines, to make a 100 babies’ sleep routine web-page for dads and moms who have newborn babies.
Total sleep time is about 13 hours per day
6-10am look around, talking, singing, and dancing with mom
10-11am nap,11-12noon feeding, 12-3pm nap, 3-7pm love to be the baby carrier, non-stop talking, playing and cooking with mom
7-10pm sleep, 10-11pm bath and feeding, 11pm-6am wakes up every 2 hours for feeding and goes back to sleep quickly. |

09/28/07 3 weeks old "Our baby has had too much gas, fussy, and too little sleep during the day time since 2 weeks old which have been getting worse for last two days. And she starts spitting up 1-3 tsps of milk after each feeding. She eagers to eat, but holds head back, pulls her legs up, and cries a lot when she is fed. Her bowel movements are normal."
Total sleep time is about 8-11 hours per day.
Daytime: Only sleeps one hour each time with holding on mother's arms, then has fussy for 1-1.5 hour.
Evening and night time: She is exhausted and sleeps 2-3 hours between the breast feedings from 10pm to 5am.
Dr: " Most likely Gastroesophageal Reflux
".
Plan: Hold her upright for 30-40 minutes after
feedings. Gives her frequent small feedings. Consider to give her medication if the symptoms continue. Gastroesophageal Reflux in Children and Adolescents (National Digestive Diseases Information Clea

I still spit-up 1 tea spoon or 1table spoon milk right after each feeding or 2 hours after feeding. I'm fussy and have some congested sound. My doctor starts Anti-reflux medication for me.
10/29/07 2 months old
On the medication, my spit-up is getting better with one spit-up per day. I can sleep 2-3 hours after each feeding over the night. But I'm fussy all day along and only can sleep half hour here or there. I only gain 3 oz during last 10 days. I should gain almost 1oz per day. Oh, please help me. My parents and doctor talk for long time, and finally they decide to discontinue the anti-reflux medication, give me breast feeding at least 8 times. After each breast feeding, pump each breast and feed me the pumped breast milk as I want. Then I will be followed with my doctor in three days. My parents will bring the feeding log and my 24 hours diapers to the clinic.
11/02/07
Wow, I gain 5 oz for last three days. I sleep 3 hours after each feeding over night, and sleep half to one and half hour after playing 2-3 hours during day time. My total sleeping time is about 12-13 hours a day. My mother breast feeds me 8-9 times a day, and adds about 20-30ml pumped breast milk on the 1st 2 days. Then I refused the pumped breast milk after breast feeding. There are 11wet diapers my parents changed for me for last 24 hours, and they weigh 1lb12oz. My doctor told my parents I sucked in 22.5oz from the breasts for last 24hours. (1lb12oz - 5.5oz=22.5oz, each dry diaper weigh half oz). Now I'm 9lb.
Tip: The most of the babies during their 1st year of life need about 50 calories per one pound weight daily to gain weight. One ounce breast milk or formula =20 calories. So babies need about 2.5oz (50 calories) breast milk or formula per pound daily. 6 lb baby needs to be fed 15oz milk, and 9lb baby needs 22.5oz milk to gain weight.

I sleep well over the daytime until 10pm . Then I wake up every 30minutes overnight. My parents hardly get to sleep overnight. I’m a little confused which is day and night, because I have been in the dark inside my mother’s womb for 9 months. It usually takes several weeks for babies to adapt to the day and night schedule. Please wake me up in the evening so I will be a little tired and sleep several more hours during the night.
09/14/07 2 weeks visit. Now I wake up from 7pm -10pm. Then I sleep and wake up every 2 hours for feeding. Yes, my parents can sleep 2 hours periods overnight. |

My daily sleeping time is about 18 hours. I’m the baby sleeping champion, and my father is the sleeping king, so there must be some of his sleeping genes that were passed down to me.
I wake up every 2-3 hours for breast feeding. Then, I quickly go back to sleep. In the morning, I will sleep for 4 hours. I do wake up for playing half an hour at 2pm , 6pm , and at midnight .

"Our baby is fussy a lot in the late evening or night"
Daytime: sleeps 2 hours and wakes up 1.5 to 2 hours for feeding and playing.
Evening and night time: sleeps 3-4 hours and wakes up 30 to 45 minutes for feeding. But I wakes up from 9pm to midnight or midnight to 2am to play with my parents everyday. They look tired.
Doctor's suggestion: wake me up at 8pm in the evening and play actively with me 2-3 hours from 8pm to 10 or 11pm to make me tired.
Then I
may go to sleep and follow my night feeding schedule. Dear Dad and Mom, please try it! |

Dr. : A lot of babies wake up every 2-3 hours for feedings during nights at 1 month old. The daily sleep time 14 hours is not too short for one month old baby. The majority of babies have several hour play time during 24hours period. Your baby's play time is in the mornings, good baby and lucky parents. |
