Social studies is the study of past and current human behavior and interactions. Social studies is doesn’t focus on one topic, but many like history, economics, geography, government, culture, psychology, sociology, and other social sciences. In school, social studies is taught as one of the main subjects to not only educate kids on the history of people, but also to teach them about many skills. This class is meant to teach students to become caring, have good citizenship, be conserving, have good critical thinking and problem solving, and be a cosmopolitan person. Social studies also is meant to educate students about world and social views such as biases, or having a prejudice view of things, point of views, awareness of multiple cultures, tolerating multiple cultures, and protecting individual rights to difference. There are many ways to teach social studies. Teachers can teach world history using textbooks and accounts from the past. Also, teachers can teach other skills by having students make comparisons and examine their personal morals and values.
